Europe has been experiencing profound changes, as are its constituent parts. However, European action and the activities of its various stakeholders seem to remain unresponsive. The forces and challenges of globalisation and deglobalization have become increasingly constraining, there is less room for manoeuvre in terms of integration. The challenges the European cooperation has to overcome are manifold: from competitiveness to innovation to drawing the frontiers with a solid neighbourhood and enlargement policy. On the eve of the “Globalization, Integration, Identity: How to Regain Europe’s Strength” conference, these challenges will be explored by Belkıs Vural Çelenk, Vice-Dean of the Yıldırım Beyazıt University and Matthieu Grandpierron, head of the Political Science Department at ICES-Vendée Catholic University in a conversation with Lénárd Sándor, head of the Center for International Law at MCC.

Belkıs Vural Çelenk is an Associate Professor of International Law and Vice-Dean of the Yıldırım Beyazıt University. She carried out her studies at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (München) as well as at the University of Lucerne. Her expertise and research extend to international private and business law and the law of the European Union.

Matthieu Grandpierron is the head of the Political Science department at ICES-Vendée Catholic University. His research looks at the impact emotions, understanding of status and history have on foreign policy decision-making processes. He is also senior researcher at Ecole Polytechnique, Visiting Professor at the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law.

Lénárd Sándor is the head of School of Law and Associate Professor of Law. He previously served as a state attorney, a chief counsel at the Constitutional Court of Hungary and as an advisor at the European Parliament in Brussels.

Bár Európa és Európa helyzete a világban jelenleg mélyreható változásokon megy keresztül, az európai szereplőket továbbra is tehetetlenség jellemzi. A globalizáció és a deglobalizáció erői, kihívásai egyre erősebb korlátokat jelentenek, az integrációban pedig egyre kevesebb a mozgástér. Az európai együttműködésnek számos kihívással kell szembenéznie: a versenyképességtől az innováción át a szilárd szomszédsági és bővítési politika kialakításáig. A „Globalization, Integration, Identity: How to Regain Europe’s Strength” című nemzetközi konferencia előestéjén ezeket a kihívásokat tekinti át Belkıs Vural Çelenk, a Yıldırım Beyazıt Egyetem dékánhelyettese asszonya és Matthieu Grandpierron, az ICES-Vendée Katolikus Egyetem politikatudományi tanszékének vezetője, akikkel Sándor Lénárd, az MCC Nemzetközi Jogi Műhelyének vezetője beszélget.

 

Belkıs Vural Çelenk a Yıldırım Beyazıt Egyetem dékánhelyettese, egyetemi docense. Tanulmányait a Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (München) és a Luzerni Egyetemen végezte. Kutatási területe átfogja a nemzetközi magánjogot és gazdasági jogot, valamint az Európai Unió jogát.

 

Matthieu Grandpierron az ICES-Vendée Katolikus Egyetem politikatudományi tanszékének vezetője. Kutatásai során azt vizsgálja, hogy az érzelmek, a státuszmegértés és a történelem milyen hatással van a külpolitikai döntéshozatali folyamatokra. Emellett az Ecole Polytechnique vezető kutatója, valamint a Sanghaji Politikai és Jogi Egyetem vendégprofesszora.

 

Sándor Lénárd az MCC Nemzetközi Jogi Műhelyének, valamint a Horváth Barna Magyarország Jog és Szabadság Körnek vezetője. Korábban az Alkotmánybíróság főtanácsadójaként Budapesten, valamint az Európai Parlament tanácsadójaként Brüsszelben dolgozott.
