The European Union is undergoing a silent revolution, and it has arrived at a pivotal crossroads. It grapples with different challenges like geopolitical tensions posed by a shifting global order, migration, or climate emergency and it is evolving from a union of values to a geostrategic power. Naturally, experts represent diverse approaches to the future of the European Union. Marc De Vos, in his latest book, Superpower Europe: The European Union's Silent Revolution, reveals that the transformative forces reshaping the EU’s mission, identity, and power on the global stage and this transformation has largely gone unnoticed by its citizens. In our upcoming lecture, Marc De Vos will be joined by Rodrigo Ballester, Head of the Center for European Studies at MCC, to delve into a critical debate. What are the main challenges the EU faces in its transformation into a geostrategic force? What tensions are emerging within its structure, and what is the potential crisis of legitimacy that lies ahead if its transformation is not matched by political reform? Join our debate to gain a deeper understanding of the EU’s role in the new world order and what it means for Europe’s future.
