Launched in 2002, MCC's High School Program (KP), offers Hungary’s most talented high-school students with development opportunities in the field of social science. This tuition-free and supplemental educational program is based on a combination of in-person and distance learning skill-building sessions. The High School Program is available in 26 locations across the Carpathian Basin, and provides development opportunities for around 4,000 talented youth.
MCC's High School Program is open to high school students from throughout Hungary, with program costs funded entirely by MCC for all admitted students. Designed to complement the high-school curriculum, the program prepares participants for the next level of higher education and supports them in planning their long-term career path. The training curriculum focuses on topics and skills that are not widely taught in secondary education, but are expected at university-level studies. The program provides flexible educational opportunities that support individual learning paths, allowing students to choose their own training curriculum based on their individual interests and motivations. The training sessions develop practical skills that can be used in everyday life, such as communication skills, debating and argumentation techniques, and effective learning techniques.
A key feature of the High School Program is KP Saturdays, which are intensive, face-to-face, monthly professional training sessions, available in six cities (Budapest, Győr, Debrecen, Miskolc, Pécs, and Szeged). On these Saturdays, students attend thematic presentations and small-group workshops that build practical and applicable knowledge and skills.
In addition to Budapest, regional MCC centers in Hungary and abroad also organize club afternoons for students on a weekly basis over the course of 16 weeks. Activities include presentations, training sessions, film clubs, cultural activities, board games, and debates. For the most active students, there is also an option for English and German language courses, which are offered by all training centers on a weekly basis. These courses focus on the acquisition of practical language and speaking skills. Online courses such as Economics, International Relations, Psychology, or Law play an important role in the program's curriculum. These areas of social sciences are only touched upon in high school but are an essential part of university education.
MCC's High School Program also enriches the lives of high school students by organizing tours and field trips in both Hungary and abroad. During one-week thematic study trips, participants develop their professional and foreign language skills and learn about a specific field of expertise. In past years, students have travelled to places such as Sarajevo, Rijeka, Transylvania, Athens, Istanbul, Krakow, Frankfurt, Berlin, and Brussels.
Through the framework of the KP Scholarship Program, high school students can begin their own research or practical project under the supervision of a mentor. Students can also take part in national competitions, and the High School Program places a special emphasis on student projects, where students can put the knowledge and skills they have learned into practice.
