The Constitution-Making Process in Chile 2019-2024

In October 2020, following the national protests of 2019, almost 80% voted in favour of initiating a process to rewrite Chile’s constitution, aiming to replace the 1980 constitution enacted during the Pinochet regime. The Constitutional Convention began its work in July 2021 and completed a draft constitution after a year of effort. However, on September 4, 2022, the Chilean public rejected this draft in a national referendum.
