Jean-Jacques Rousseau was one of the most famous philosophers of the Age of Enlightenment in addition he was also a writer and composer from Geneva. His political philosophy and his theory of the state influenced the French Revolution and posterity. His masterpiece entitled, Letter to D’Alembert was written in 1758 but as striking and as fresh as the day it was published, it is among the greatest defenses of republicanism against the excesses of cosmopolitan enlightenment. Most important and surprising for us, Rousseau shows that radical enlightenment contains within it the seeds of sexual revolution, which overturns the authority of families while undermining the capacity for love and national devotion. Join our event if you would like to understand the relevance of Rousseau in the 21st century. The topic will be introduced by Arthur Milikh, the executive director of The Claremont Institute’s Center for the American Way of Life in Washington, DC.
