What deeper political and military problems contributed to the defeat at Mohács? How did spies and intelligence networks influence Ottoman–Habsburg relations? What connects Hungarian and Turkic origin traditions? And how did Hungarian émigrés and Ottoman authors interpret the events following the Revolution of 1848–49?
During our event, 4 Hungarian–Turkish student teams will present the results of their joint research following an introductory lecture. Their projects explore four interconnected themes: the Battle of Mohács, espionage and intelligence during the Ottoman–Habsburg conflicts, Hungarian–Turkic origin narratives, and the experiences and historical memory of Hungarian emigrants in the Ottoman Empire.
The student presentations will be followed by the launch of the academic volume edited as part of the project and a roundtable discussion on international cooperation, historical dialogue and student research. The event will conclude with the presentation of certificates to the participants.
The conference celebrates the work of the students, mentors, teachers and historians who have contributed to the Mohács 500 Dialogue and demonstrates how shared research can transform a history of conflict into an opportunity for international dialogue.
