The latest training course organised in Brussels gave students of the Transylvanian School of Politics a behind-the-scenes look at European politics and institutions.
The 15-17 April program included a visit to the House of European History and the Parliamentarium. Through a guided multimedia tour, participants learned more about the origins of Europe, its historical and cultural heritage, the integration process and the functioning of the European Parliament.
In a one-to-one interview, Szilárd Szerényi, the programme leader, introduced the students and the programme to Gyula Winkler and Loránt Vincze MEP. Topics such as the processes of European policy-making and the challenges of its functioning today were discussed. The European Parliament building, including the plenary chamber, was open to the public.
Current trends in international political thinking and the functioning of the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies were presented to the students by Dr. Peter Hefele, economist and economic historian, and political director of the institution.
The students also had the opportunity to meet some members of the team of the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Policy, Olivier Várhelyi, including Szabolcs Horváth, Ildiko Voller-Szenci and Tímea Vörös.
The students also took part in the National Conference on Conservatism (NatCon), which addressed relevant issues of today.
