As a part of our dynamically expanding education, science, and international portfolio, we are launching a scholarship program for young American researchers. The Budapest Fellowship Program will be implemented in cooperation with the Washington-based The Hungary Initiatives Foundation and the University of Public Service.

The aim of the program is to provide the next generation of American political experts with sufficient knowledge of Central and Eastern Europe, including Hungary, and to further strengthen the image of Budapest as an international professional forum. The full-time, scholarship-supported transatlantic fellowship status provides a unique opportunity for young American researchers and experts in the Hungarian capital. Admitted scholars will have the opportunity to carry out independent research on a topic of their choice, as well as to gain practical experience at an institution in Budapest with a profile that matches their professional interests.

Budapest Fellowship Program is expected to run from the end of September 2020 to June 2021. Within the framework of the program, in September 2020, two juniors (undergoing master's or doctoral studies) and two seniors (postdoctoral students or graduates) will have the opportunity to start scientific activities in Hungary. The structure of the program, in addition to deepening in the field of individual research and professional work, also serves as a course of more in-depth knowledge in connection with Central and Eastern European as well as Hungarian history and culture.

Scholars will carry out independent research assisted by mentors and gain practical experience appropriate to their academic and professional field during the ten-month internship at an institution in Budapest. In addition, MCC will provide them with the opportunity to publish the results of their research. Admitted researchers will also have the opportunity to develop lectures, courses, and an educational curriculum of workshops for undergraduates in MCC, master’s students of the Leadership Academy, and participants in other postgraduate programs at the Collegium.

During the program, thematic seminars and study trips will also be organized, and the scholars will take Hungarian language classes in order to immersed in local culture. Moreover, under the program, scholars can meet renowned professionals, scholars, and business leaders. The young researchers may take part in internal workshops to broaden their leadership skills, professional development and economic, political, historical and cultural knowledge of the Central and Eastern European region too.

Organizers hope that the Budapest Fellowship Program will contribute to shaping the image of future American leaders on Central and Eastern Europe and Hungary and to expanding their knowledge of the region.
