At the latest Leadership Club event of MCC's Leadership Academy, our guest was Viktor Sverla, Director of Strategy and Sustainability at MOL. During the discussion, we gained insight into MOL's medium- and long-term plans and challenges, as well as the processes behind the development of the company's strategy.

Viktor Sverla's career has been closely tied to MOL, as he first started working at the company as an analyst and gradually climbed higher and higher up the corporate ladder. Thanks to this journey, his professional path not only provided him with in-depth knowledge of the company's operations but also laid a strong foundation for him as a leader. He highlighted that in recent years, MOL has achieved significant efficiency improvements, which are crucial in an evolving industry environment.

The central theme of the discussion was the rapidly changing landscape of the energy sector. Viktor Sverla explained that the industry must simultaneously meet increasing energy demands while actively leading the transition toward sustainability. One of MOL's key steps in this transformation was entering the waste management sector. Through this initiative, the company is not only leveraging its existing expertise and capacity but also creating opportunities to integrate waste-derived raw materials into its production processes.

The Consumer Services division also received special attention during the discussion. Sverla emphasized that the key to the division's success has been its ability to understand and consistently meet customer needs. As a result, MOL has now become the largest coffee chain in the region, serving as a great example of innovative thinking and agile business management.

Leadership competencies and values were another focal point of the event. According to Sverla, the success criteria for MOL’s leaders include result orientation, effective delegation, openness to growth and learning, the ability to inspire, collaboration, and integrity. He stressed that a good leader must be able to integrate diverse perspectives, and sometimes it is worth testing ideas on a small scale before rolling them out on a larger level.

As a takeaway, Viktor Sverla encouraged the audience to be patient, as opportunities will come over time with healthy ambition and openness. The discussion was both inspiring and insightful, offering numerous valuable ideas and practical advice for those in attendance.
