Pécs was also a host location for the MCC Budapest Summit on Technology and Society, where invited international experts explored the possibilities at the intersection of tradition and innovation.

MCC Pécs recently welcomed Indian author and digital creator Jash Dholani, best known for his social media platform The Old Books Guy. His visit was part of the regional program of the MCC Budapest Summit on Technology and Society. The thought-provoking discussion was moderated by Zoé Eötvös, a student at MCC Pécs.

In his talk, Dholani reflected on the role of technology in modern life. “When used wisely, technology can be more helpful than harmful — but it all depends on how and why we use it,” he said. He warned that mindless scrolling on social media can drain our energy and attention from more meaningful aspects of life such as family, friendships, learning, sports, and rest.

Dholani emphasized that big tech companies profit by monopolizing our attention, which makes it all the more important for individuals to stay in control of their screen time. “Reading on a screen is much more exhausting for the brain than reading a traditional paper book. A book is stable — it doesn’t pop up with ads or notifications. It’s a timeless value that can’t be replaced,” he explained.

He also stressed the importance of hands-on, real-world learning. “You can’t learn to play music, do sports, or speak a foreign language just by sitting in front of a screen. These things require soul and that’s what makes us human. Show me a truly great book written by AI,” he challenged.

The event concluded with a lively forum, as members of the audience posed numerous questions and shared their thoughts, turning the session into an open exchange of ideas.
