Fishel Szlajen is an ordained rabbi from Yeshivat Maale Gilboa. He holds a postdoctoral degree in bioethics from PUCRS, a PhD in philosophy from UNEM and an MA in Jewish philosophy from Bar-Ilan University. He is currently a senior professor of ethics and bioethics at three Argentinian universities: the University of Buenos Aires, La Matanza National University and the University of Salvador.

He is also a Jerusalem Fellow of the Mandel Leadership Institute in Israel and a Scholar Fellow on Religion and the Rule of Law at the University of Oxford.

He is a full member of both the Pontifical Academy for Life in Vatican City and the Argentinian Bioethical National Commission. He is also a member of the International Consortium for Law and Religion Studies, and of the Argentine National Council of Ethics in Medicine, as well as of the Argentine Council for Religious Freedom.

Fishel Szlajen is an accomplished and highly productive author who has published a substantial number of articles, papers and books. In 2018, he received the Domingo Faustino Sarmiento Honorary Mention —the highest distinction awarded by the Argentine National Senate— for his work in bioethics. In 2019, the Buenos Aires Legislature named him Outstanding Personality in Culture. In 2020, the Israeli Minister of Diaspora Affairs officially recognised his contributions to bioethical research and interfaith cooperation. In 2024, the Pontifical Academy for Life awarded him a Diploma of Merit and Silver Medal in recognition of his work promoting the protection of life and human dignity.

Rabbi Dr. Szlajen is a leading figure in ethics and bioethics. His research addresses contemporary ethical issues in areas such as health, education, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, public policy, democracy, law, and religious liberty. His work has also informed legislative and policy development in Argentina, offering philosophical and ethical frameworks for addressing some of current most critical issues.
