BIO 

Shane Darke has published widely in the area of illicit drug use, including ground-breaking work on opioid overdose, suicide, psychostimulant overdose, psychopathology, trauma, treatment outcome and toxicology. He has written many seminal works, particularly on opioid overdose, and has published 310 articles, 6 books, 85 Monographs, 8 book chapters, and has a Hirsch Index of 60 (with >13,000 citations). He is listed in the top 0.1% of substance dependence researchers worldwide (PlosBiology 2020). In 2021 he was ranked as the world’s leading expert on heroin dependence by Expertscape, an  objective ranking of people and institutions by their expertise in biomedical topics. His most recent books are “The clinician‘s guide to illicit drugs and health“ (2019) and The pocket guide to illicit drugs and health (2021), published by Silverback Publishing (London). He is the Australasian Regional Editor of Addiction (the leading international journal in the field) and an Associate Editor of both Drug and Alcohol Dependence and Drug and Alcohol Dependence Reports.
