Illiberal narratives, language regulations and cancel culture seek to dominate the public discourse, going as far as to judge whether an opinion is morally permissible or not. Freedom of religion also seems to be coming under increasing pressure. In addition to an increase in anti-Semitism and vandalism against churches and places of worship of different religions, we also see legal developments that conflict with the freedom of religion.
Is this enough to say that freedom of expression and fundamental rights are under threat in Europe? What must or should be done to protect the foundations of freedom?
The German-Hungarian Institute for European Cooperation at the MCC cordially invites you to a discussion event with Dr Gudrun KUGLER - Member of the Austrian National Council; Spokesperson for Human Rights of the ÖVP parliamentary group - on the topic of "Freedom of Expression, Fundamental Rights and Liberties in Europe from the perspective of a politician".
