One of today’s best best-selling authors, Roger Crowley delivered a lecture to MCC students presenting three case studies with the essential questions of leadership: individual leadership - Sultan Baybars and the threat of Islam; collective “corporate” management - the Venice case; global management - the success and failure of the Portuguese. After the three case studies, the personality traits making a successful leader were presented by drawing a parallel between the characteristics of the modern age and those of the different historical eras.

Crawley specializes in the Mediterranean region of the 15th and 16th centuries. Crowley’s first book 1453: The Holy War for Constantinople and the Clash of Islam and the West was published in 2005 followed by its Hungarian translation in 2016. This was followed by other best-sellers and four of his five books published so far were also translated into Hungarian.
