The MCC Budapest Summit on Technology and Society conference arrived in Szombathely with a lecture by Saroj Bishoyi.

Saroj Bishoyi, Senior Fellow at the Vivekananda International Foundation, was interviewed by Miklós Teszáry, Researcher at MCC’s School of International Relations, about the global and societal impacts of today’s technological advancements, the strategic role of artificial intelligence, and the key ethical questions surrounding these developments.

Saroj Bishoyi explained that over the past decade, India has undergone a remarkable digital transformation. Thanks to the Digital India initiative, internet access, e-governance services, and digital financial tools have become available to hundreds of millions. Technology now permeates everyday life: QR codes guide administrative processes, payments can be made via mobile phones at local markets, and drones flying overhead have become part of daily reality.

The conversation placed special emphasis on the role of artificial intelligence, which holds the potential to revolutionize not only the economy – including sectors like industry and agriculture – but also to open new dimensions in warfare. The use of autonomous systems and intelligent military technologies presents serious strategic challenges. Saroj highlighted India’s ambition to remain competitive in this area while promoting responsible and ethical applications. The discussion also touched on the future-shaping role of quantum technology, which could fundamentally transform data security and computational capacity – an area where India is already making significant investments.

The exchange underscored that countries capable of integrating cutting-edge technologies into their societal and strategic frameworks are likely to become key players in shaping the global order of the 21st century.
