From professional challenges to first-hand insight into European human rights proceedings, Krisztián Simon’s first weeks in Strasbourg have already been filled with valuable experiences. Through Fellowship Program, he is undertaking a professional traineeship at the European Court of Human Rights from October to December.
One of the most valuable aspects of the placement is the opportunity to put the theoretical knowledge acquired during his university studies into practice and gain a deeper understanding of how legal proceedings work in reality. During his first two weeks, Krisztián gained insight into the main stages of proceedings before the Court, allowing him to observe how European human rights law is applied in practice.
During his stay in Strasbourg, he also visited the Council of Europe, where he learned more about the organisation's operations and its relationship with the European Court of Human Rights. The visit gave him a broader perspective on the institutional framework surrounding the protection of human rights in Europe and the cooperation between European institutions in this field.
In the longer term, Krisztián hopes to build on the knowledge and experience gained in Strasbourg in his future career as a lawyer. Alongside the professional insights, he particularly values the international environment, which gives him the opportunity to meet people from different parts of the world on a daily basis. These encounters represent another valuable aspect of the experience and will serve him well in his future career.
The first weeks of his traineeship have already highlighted the value of international professional experience for young legal professionals. The opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the work of a leading European human rights institution offers a valuable perspective on the practical side of the legal profession.
