September marked the start of a new academic year for students in MCC’s High School Program in Szombathely. The month’s activities combined academic workshops, practical learning and opportunities for students to spend time together and get to know one another better.
At debate workshop, students worked on their argumentation, critical thinking and public speaking skills. Through active participation and constructive discussions, they practiced expressing their ideas clearly and considering different points of view. These are skills they can put to use both in and outside the classroom.
During an economics session led by Dr. Szabolcs Boronkai, students explored how the economy developed from the earliest great civilizations through the Industrial Revolution to the present day. Using historical examples, they discussed the links between economic growth, well-being and social change.
The program also included hands-on activities. At another workshop, dietitian Szandra Szijártó helped students understand the relationship between nutrition and how the body works. The students put what they had learned into practice by preparing granola and oatmeal served with fruit sauce. During "Dallamvonal" music session, students developed their musical skills by playing music together and working as a group.
Students also had time to relax and enjoy a sports afternoon, with volleyball, table tennis, basketball and Viking chess on the agenda. Beyond the workshops, these activities gave them a chance to have fun, spend time together and get to know their fellow students better.
The September activities offered a varied start to the academic year, combining new knowledge and practical experience with opportunities to build friendships. For the students in Szombathely, it was a chance to explore different interests, learn new skills and reconnect with the community as they began the year together.
