Magnus Henrekson is a Professor of Economics and a Senior Research Fellow at the Research Institute of Industrial Economics (IFN) in Stockholm, Sweden. Following a 15-year tenure, he relinquished his position as IFN President in October 2020. Until 2009, he occupied the position of Jacob Wallenberg Research Chair in the Department of Economics at the Stockholm School of Economics. Following the completion of his Ph.D. at Gothenburg University in 1990, which focused on An Economic Analysis of Swedish Government Expenditure, he went on to lead a number of projects designed to explore the factors behind variations in cross-country growth. Since the turn of the new millennium, his primary research focus has been on entrepreneurship, economics and the institutional determinants of the business climate. As well as his academic qualifications, he has considerable experience as a consultant, board member and lecturer in a variety of settings. Since June 2023, he has also been assigned the role of government investigator, with the objective of proposing a new grading system for Swedish schools.
